About Storyboard

Welcome to Storyboard! We’re Midway, Utah’s new bookstore/skate shop/coffee bar, coming Winter 2024. Storyboard is an inclusive place for readers, skaters, writers, aprés skiers, misfits, java freaks, fingerboarders, remote workers, shredders, and loafers to mingle (or go solo) tucked among the towering peaks of the Wasatch Mountains.

You might not see many combination bookstore/skate shops, but we think reading and skating are similar disciplines: both are meditative, knowledge-seeking pursuits that are fun to do alone but always better with community. We’ll offer book clubs, writing workshops, skate lessons, niche affinity meet-ups (any fellow fledgling prospectors want to talk rare ore with us?),  and more. Let us know if you’ve got an idea we haven’t thought of yet: hello@storyboardmidway.com

Storyboard is the creation of Claire Carusillo and Galen DeKemper. Claire is a fiction writer and culture journalist. Galen is a fiction writer and the editor of Dollar Stories, an expansive run of zine-style short stories that pioneered the “romantic skateboard fiction” genre. Galen met Claire and her dog Mars on a rooftop after recognizing her from an article she wrote about how to catfish potential suitors with an Instagram filter that made it look like Shrek was her boyfriend. Galen taught Claire how to skate, and since then, they’ve been cruising, reading, and writing together.

They moved from New York City to Utah in November 2023 with a dream of opening an accessible, surprisingly stylish place for beginners and experts to practice their hobbies, get lost in a book, or find refuge from the drone of remote work.

We hope you stay awhile.
